We design primarily for people, construct spaces that are relevant to place, and forge connections that give a building purpose.

This has remained consistent, underlying values to Mecanoo's practice over the past four decades.

Macau Central Library Macau, China

While clearly a contemporary structure within a traditional context, the new Central Library will provide a forward-thinking platform for influencing its surroundings. The uniform skin wraps the library volume and opens up like a book page to the main entrance facing the Tap Seac square.

Park Valley Diemen, Netherlands

Park Valley will be a new residential area inclusive of all age groups, with a high quality of living and lushing green public space. The neighbourhood will combine the best of both worlds - the village character of Diemen and the urban amenities of Amsterdam.

Amstel Design District Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amstel Design District endeavours more than just creating working and living spaces. An environment where noise and stress are replaced by spirituality, co-working, exchange of ideas, mutual inspiration and health enhancing activities.

De Nederlandsche Bank Amsterdam, Netherlands

More than 50 years after its opening in 1968, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has become technically dated and unsustainable. Our multidisciplinary design team sought solutions for the transformation of the building that respect and enhance the original design, while meeting very high sustainability ambitions.

European Investment Bank Kirchberg, Luxembourg

The departure point for the design of the new European Investment Bank (EIB) is the connection between the green valley north of the site and the urban European administration quarter to the south. The building and its exterior public space express the fundamental values of the European Union and the EIB: respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law.

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Mecanoo designed the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi to resonate with natural rock formations, reflecting the museum’s goal of improving understanding of and engagement with the natural world. Every element of the design uses geometry as an overriding theme, with pentagonal shapes resembling cellular structures.

The Hague Central Station Urban Plan Vision The Hague, Netherlands

The Hague is a city of long lines, parks and squares. Yet upon arrival at Den Haag central station you hardly notice this. You are surrounded by stone, concrete and infrastructure with mostly inaccessible ground levels. Many conflicts between mobility, infrastructure and public space create an unpleasant and unsafe place for pedestrians and cyclists. How can we solve this?

De Hoge Wiek Tower Rotterdam, Netherlands

Hoge Wiek lies at a pivotal point between the city harbour and the centre of Rotterdam. Located on the busy Maasboulevard, it represents an iconic gateway to the city centre marking the beginning of a stunning high-rise skyline of Rotterdam. Hoge Wiek is an integral part of the recent ‘Havenstad masterplan’ designed by Mecanoo.

Joint Research Centre Sevilla, Spain

The design proposes several simple, logical, and site-specific sustainable solutions informed by Seville's climate, access to daylight, shading, and the local prevailing winds. A robust and flexible floorplan allows for future adaptation and expansion.

Zaankwartier Wormerveer, Netherlands

Meneba is a characteristic factory complex north of the Zaan River. The Zaankwartier masterplan brings an opportunity to breathe new life into this unique location on the Zaan. It will become a vibrant neighbourhood for young and old to live, work and play inspired by the industrial architecture of the site.
